Unlocking A New You

Here’s an unlock for anyone starting something and feeling like they aren’t improving.

Instead of thinking you should be better, I want you to act like a four-year-old.

How?

Imagine you are in a sandbox.

You build a castle. It breaks.

You build it again. It breaks.

You try another way. It sort of stays there. Then it breaks.

You don’t get upset because you are playing! You are in the moment. You are enjoying it all: the good, the bad, and the uncertain.

That’s what practice should be like.

It’s playtime.

It shouldn’t be perfect.

You shouldn’t make significant progress in one session.

You aren’t going to build skyscrapers out of sand.

They should break. That’s the point. You keep iterating and testing while improving with each step.

You have every right to get upset if you aren’t improving. But that’s not helpful.

Remember, “You become what you think about.”

Think like a 4-year-old and go have some fun in the sand!
