“I don’t get tired.”

I remember when I first heard these words from Jesse Itzler a few years ago. It was the unlock I needed when I was feeling the effects of a hard workout.

It was what I needed as I was competing in my 2nd City of Oaks Half Marathon in November of 2024.

As we struggle through the suck, the voices in our heads start to get very loud.
“Slow down”
“Take a break.”
“You’re getting tired.”

“No,” I kept saying to myself, “you don’t get tired.”

I wasn’t going to win the race, but I was determined to outrun my shadow from last year’s race.

That mindset helped me average a 10:09/mile pace, a whopping 43 seconds per mile faster than last year.

We control what voices we let enter our heads.

Keep focused. Stay positive. One step at a time.

Remember, “You don’t get tired.”
