Ultra-Marathon

Play the entire game and add it all up at the end.

This is a mantra we’d all stand to benefit from.

Too often when we think we are “behind” it knocks us off our balance and bruises our ego. We throw our hands up and say, “What’s the point? I’ll never win.”

What is “winning” anyway?

Is it the physical prize at the end or is it the incalculable growth we made by pushing ourselves outside our comfort zone and into a new dimension of learning?

Far too often we are disappointed with the perceived “L” but fail to recognize it’s priming us for something bigger and better up ahead.

All of these reps are going to pay off for us, eventually.

We may not win this leg of the race but rest assured we’ll be prepared for the next.

Don’t give up before the race is over.

We Can Do Hard Things

When things get hard remember that our “20-year-old” version dreamed of having our focus, determination, resilience, and confidence.

We’ve been prepping for these moments for our entire lives.

We can do hard things.

Somedays we just have to remind ourselves.

Episode 26 was a blast!  I met Joel in August when he came to speak at our company and share the journey of the past 9 years and how this whole thing came together.  It’s an incredible story of perseverance, patience, grit, and a little luck.  We go in depth on a variety of topics and he shares a lot of great insight on his daily routines and how he prepares for these long races.

About Joel:

Joel Runyon is an athlete and entrepreneur. He is the founder of IMPOSSIBLE – a company dedicated to helping people push their limits and do impossible things.

In 2017, he became the youngest person in the world to run 7 ultra marathons on 7 continents. Along the way, he raised $192,000 for Pencils of Promise and built 7 schools.

He is very bad at saying “no” to a challenge.
