Mental Reset

Don’t beat yourself up if you need a long break.

It’s good to take a whole mental health day to reset (maybe a few).

Stepping away provides a perspective we wouldn’t get if we were always on the go.

Those moments of stillness bring us the clarity we need.

They bring balance back to our lives.

They reenergize us and help us move forward again.

It’s a practice we should institute often.

Peaceful Protest

Where do we find peace?

Is it in the early mornings before the world wakes up?
Is it when we can find any quiet place?
Is it on a walk around the block?
Is it in deep conversations?

Peace means stillness. It means serenity. It means our minds feel balanced and free.

When we become frustrated we must stop and ask ourselves how we got here.

How have we given this time to everyone else and not ourselves?

Our lives can be very chaotic and we must find these pockets of peace.

We need that time. It’s precious. It balances us.

We schedule out many other seemingly insignificant tasks and meetings, surely we can put something on the calendar for our mental health?

Call it our “Personal Peace Practice” if we must and plan time every day.

It’s mandatory. It can’t be missed.

Soon it’ll start to be the one we look forward to over all others.

Lonely and Alone

Lonely and Alone. These are two completely different things yet they often get confused with one another.

Lonely can be a state of depression and can come about when we need others to make us feel complete and validate our worth. We can get depressed if we feel we are not being included and often will conjure up unjustified ideas of why or how we are being mistreated by being left out.

Being alone can be serene. It can be a time we use to break away from the noise and look inward. Where we reflect on the present moment and level set. Where we practice self-love and put ourselves top of minds over others.

The bridge getting us from being lonely to loving being alone is paved with a lot of heartaches. There are a lot of self-limiting beliefs and childhood ideals that we often have to acknowledge and overcome. If we are willing to do the work of self-reflection we’ll find we get to a place where we are comfortable being alone and start to seek these moments out more frequently.

They become happy places for us where they used to cause pain.

They become our getaway from a noisy and frantic world.

They become an island we want to visit more often.

Tomorrowland

What does tomorrow look like?

What opportunities or obstacles will present themselves?

How will we react to these situations?

These are all great questions but also unnecessary at the same time. Because we have no idea. We can assume what might happen but tomorrow is unknown.

If that is true then worrying becomes meaningless. If we don’t know then why do we put so much pressure on our emotions to fantasize about the good and bad of it all?

We could argue that the present moment, the one you are in right now, is the most valuable and the one that is ripe for the most change.

Instead of spending energy on the unknown stressors of life put the focus on the present moments and work toward improving those. Incrementally, the future will most likely be a brighter one.

And if it’s not, we’ve at least put in the practice to handle it when it comes.

A Moment Of Silence

We are all bombarded by constant distractions from the moment we awake. Emails, texts, Social media, music, podcasts, TV, etc. It controls us from the onset and never lets up.

Some of it is useful but most of it becomes drawn out and overdone. These distractions have slowly crept more and more into our lives and it’s only getting worse.

If we know these distractions are inevitable then it might be wise to block deliberate time out each day to find silence. Because when we find silence we start to find ourselves.

Silence can be weird, I know. It’s uncomfortable. Sitting with your thoughts and your thoughts alone. It’s almost become unnatural when it might be the best thing we can do for ourselves.

The mind can quiet and relax. The mind can focus.

When the outside world is shut off it allows our inner voice to finally speak up and share what we truly think. If we listen closely and respect the voice inside us then it has the power to open up new doors we haven’t considered before. It might be as simple as an idea to pursue or a thought to hold onto as we go through the day. It might point out some areas we should look to improve or be cheering us on to keep going. It doesn’t matter what it says because it’s all purely honest and authentic.

Each of our voices is unique but the only way we get to hear its true words is to quiet everything around us.

Sit on the floor and close your eyes, go for a walk in the woods, relax on your back porch. It doesn’t matter how you do it. Find what works for you.

It also doesn’t have to be for hours. Start with a minute. Progress to 5. Maybe someday get to 10, 20, or 30 minutes.

If we make a small commitment to taking back ownership of our time and use that to eliminate the distractions then we might start to enjoy the silence.

It becomes positive fuel for a happy and healthy life.
