Your greatest adventure is on the other side of the decision you're afraid to make.
My Story
Looking back, my life has had this before and after feel to it. Part one was complacent Brian, scared of his own shadow, never taking chances for fear of what might happen. Part two has been all about leaning into that fear, knowing there's always risk in anything we do, but that's no reason not to start and try.
The first real moment I remember taking control was in early 2009. I was in mountains of debt, to the tune of like $50,000. My brother gifted me Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover and it was a wake up call. That book helped me reshape how I thought about finances and it became the impetus to start getting out of debt. That shift in thinking also led me to think about what I wanted out of life, which led to changing careers and leaving the golf industry for sales. That led me to want to push myself even further. How do I get more out of my life? How do I try more things that scare me?
The beginning of the journey.
One of those things was podcasting. I'd always been told I had a great voice for radio but never gave it much thought. When podcasting started becoming popular around 2015 I thought, maybe I'll start a podcast. It took me two years to actually do it. And that's why my whole mission is called Just Get Started. The podcast, the business, everything. Because not getting started just keeps us standing still. If we just get started, if we put a little momentum behind it, it's amazing what could happen.
Since then I haven't stopped. Books. Speaking. Triathlon training. Leaving a stable career to coach full time. Every single time the same pattern showed up. I had to make a commitment before I felt ready. I had to get clear on the objective before the path appeared. I had to work through the mindset before the action felt possible. I had to set the right priorities to not lose focus on the path ahead. I had to build accountability before the consistency stuck. I had to lean on my support systems when it got hard. And I had to develop enough self awareness to know where I was getting in my own way.
I didn't know it while I was going through it. But there was a compass guiding me forward the whole time.
Just Get Started — the podcast that started it all.
How Compass Was Born
I didn't name that pattern until much later. But when I finally sat down and looked back at the entire arc, it was always there. Commitment. Objective. Mindset. Priorities. Accountability. Support Systems. Self Awareness.
I call it Compass. And what I've learned is it doesn't just work for me. I've watched it work for people who wanted a fresh start in their career, people who finally wrote the book they'd been putting off for years, people who launched a podcast they'd been too scared to start, and founders who needed to stop avoiding sales and start owning it.
The pattern is the same every time. The destination is different. But the compass always points the same direction. Forward.

My Now
Here’s a bit about where things are at in my world…
Sales Coaching: This year has been incredible building my business full-time. I’ve brought on some cool clients building amazing products and have also had the chance to conduct a few workshops on specific sales skills. Health & Wellness: I’ve signed up for my 1st Triathlon and am actively working to learn how to swim competitively to tackle the first leg of the triathlon.
Travel: I’ve been blessed with a few different international trips over the last 2 years and excited to hit another country (and a new continent!) this year. I’m excited to make my way to South America!
This is just a little bit about where I am now. How about you? I always enjoy catching up with folks, so feel free to drop me a line in my contact form or connect with me on LinkedIn.connect with me on LinkedIn.
